Our Field Perspective

We write for photographers who would rather understand a coast than collect it, and who accept that weather, access and care for the land shape every frame.

Terrain and light first

Fjordreelcactus began as a set of shared notebooks between photographers who kept meeting at the same crowded railings and wondering why. The answer was usually that everyone had followed the same list of destinations rather than reading the landscape for themselves.

These field notes try to change that habit, one route at a time.

How we research

Our guidance draws on time spent on fjord trails, ferries and shorelines in western Norway, Lofoten and further afield, cross-checked against primary sources: Kartverket maps, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, varsom.no, the Outdoor Recreation Act, the Norwegian Mountain Code and published Leave No Trace principles. Where figures such as walking times or heights vary between sources, we give rounded ranges rather than false precision.

What we do not do

  • We do not accept payment to feature locations, tours or equipment.
  • We do not publish precise coordinates for fragile or unofficial spots.
  • We do not present risky edge positions as the standard way to photograph a place.

Corrections

Trails, regulations and access arrangements change. If you find something out of date, please send us a field note. We review every correction and update pages with the date of the change.

Who we are

Fjordreelcactus is published by Fjordreelcactus Media AS, a small independent editorial company based in Bergen. We are not affiliated with any tourism board, park authority, transport operator or manufacturer.
